What we're reading now

  • The book currently on my nightstand is, Once Upon a Town, by Bob Greene. It has single-handedly restored my faith in the human race.
  • Recent reads and raves: Girl Trouble, by Holly Goddard Jones, a book of novels masquerading as short stories; Sam Weller's Listen to the Echoes: The Ray Bradbury Interviews, inspiration to live and create on every page; Lee Martin's The Bright Forever, one of those authors who will definitely win a National Book award one day. Mort Castle
  • I just finished M.K. Hobson's cool debut book, an alternative history novel called The Native Star. Camille Alexa
  • I just finished the wonderful Mistress of the Art of Death historical mystery series by Ariana Franklin. Highly recommended. Sarah Wisseman
  • Currently reading The Zap Gun, by Philip K. Dick. Bruce Boston
  • I just read James Kaelan's We're Getting On, and highly recommend it to one and all, J.A. Tyler
  • What am I reading now? I've swamped myself reading young adult romance novels in preparation for a summer writing class, which I'm teaching, at Richard Hugo House in Seattle. Some of my favorites have included: I Know It's Over, by C.K. Kelly Martin, Scribbler of Dreams, by Mary E. Pearson, and To Catch a Pirate, by Jade Parker. Mindy Hardwick
  • I'm a member of a book club and our book this month is Stones into Schools, by Greg Mortenson, a follow up to Three Cups of Tea, which we read a few months ago. The sequel to the inspiring and touching story of a man dedicated to providing facilities for Afghani and Pakistani girls to become educated. Already into the book and am hooked again. J.D. Webb
  • What I am reading now: Dead Set: A Zombie Anthology, by Joe McKinney and Michelle McCrary; First Voyages, (first published stories of famous SF writers); and Holding Wonder, short stories by Zenna Henderson. Marge Simon
  • I just finished reading The Mystery of Grace, by Charles De Lint. It is a beautiful story about love and faith with some magic realism mixed in. Diane Gillette
  • I'm currently reading Small Crimes, by Dave Zeltserman Barry Ergang
  • I’m reading Honey In His Mouth, by Lester Dent (Hard Case Crime) and Kiss Your Elbow, by Alan Handley (Harlequin). Laird Long
  • Sacred Games, by Vikram Chandra. Tracie McBride
  • I just started reading William Kent Krueger's Blood Hollow. Beth Groundwater
  • I just finished Blockade Billy, by Stephen King, and I'm now reading The Lion, by Nelson DeMille. John Floyd
  • I just finished a fun mystery by Laura Levine: Shoes To Die For. Gail Farrelly
  • I read several books concurrently, usually a mixture of fiction and non-fiction. I'm reading Stieg Larsson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Ursula K. Le Guin's Always Coming Home, a wonderful "historical science fiction, and Robert Wright's Non-Zero: History, Evolution & Human Cooperation. McKenna Donovan
  • Having finally made my way through Robin Hobb's trilogy of trilogies (Farseer, Liveship and Tawny Man), I rested my novel reading muscle for a while by devouring Jetse de Vries's excellent Shine anthology, before embarking on the epic and often hilarious tale of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (Susanna Clarke). After I finish that one, I'll reward myself with that rare and delicious treat, a new Banks novel (The Steep Approach to Garbadale) which is even now lying on my bedside table just oozing plot and character and brilliance. Floris Kleijne
  • Just reading Flipping Out, the third in the Lomax & Biggs cop series by Marshall Karp. Described by James Patterson as a cross between Robert Crais and Janet Evanovitch, it's thrilling and funny--a great combination. If you enjoy "buddy" stories with bite and haven't read Karp, you should try him. He's good. Adrian Magson
  • I am reading Larry McMurtry's, Rhino Ranch. O'Neil De Noux
