Q & A
What role does memory play in your writing?

A big one. I think almost everyone, at least some of the time, writes about people and places (or composites of people and places) that they've known, in real life. One also has to be able to remember ideas, at least long enough to jot them down.

What was your first published work, and what did you do to celebrate it?

My first acceptance was a short story in Mystery Time, published in their August/Winter 1994 issue. I celebrated by spending the five dollars I received in payment on a large pepperoni-and-mushroom pizza. Seriously.
