Jonathan C. Gillespie

Jonathan C. Gillespie has had work published in several print and online markets. His work has been nominated for both Parsec and BFSA awards. He enjoys writing fast-paced character-driven stories in the genres of fantasy, science fiction and horror, often blending elements of the three. He is a big believer in power of audio fiction and the Internet as distribution medium. Other examples of his audio work can be found on his website. He is currently working on more short fiction. He's also working on a significant special project, and hints there will be news later this year.

Jonathan lives in Atlanta, GA, with his wife, two cats, and an Australian bearded dragon.

Q & A

Q: As a fellow Sniplits author, I wonder if you prefer writing short stories or other forms of writing? Always interested the opinion of a published writer. Tom Anselm

J.G.: Hi Tom, thanks for the question. The answer is a resounding "sometimes." On one hand, novels (like my latest project) give you a tremendous canvas to spend time doing things that would sacrifice pacing in a short story, such as in-depth character backstory. On the other hand, brevity is enjoyable at times, and short stories are wonderful repositories for a hot idea I can't stretch to full novel size. Short stories are great for notoriety, but the money is in novels, so I look on short fiction as a means to an end, rather than the end themselves.
