TS: I write all forms of fiction. But I like writing short stories the best because they satisfy my desire to complete something in a short time frame, they're easy to research and market, and the probability of getting published is great. Plus, they're just fun to write. I've written five novel-length pieces and also enjoy creating stories with complex characters, plots, sub-plots, and settings. But novels are a real pain in the keister to edit and rewrite...and everybody and their cousin seems to be trying to get one published. However, I was just contacted by a NY agent who is looking at a couple of my novels. So by this time next month I might be singing the praises of longer fiction, heh, heh. The interesting thing about this NY agent is he contacted me after seeing one of my short stories published in a literary journal. So maybe journals still function as a vehicle for linking agents/publishers with emerging writers. Thanks for your interest and have fun writing.
